We exist to mobilize, resource, and empower communities (which we call microchurches) to proclaim and demonstrate the good news of the kingdom of God to our city and beyond. Our name is a tribute to the underground church of history, characterized by sacrificial faith in the face of danger, oppression, and even death. We honor that memory and hope to represent that church in our city. We provide services, such as our Sunday morning Crucible service, to create places of community and change for those doing mission in the Tampa Bay area.
Our church is one made up of not just individuals, but communities. In fact, the Underground is a fellowship of these microchurches - groups that reach out to their neighbors (home-based churches), seek to reach certain populations (mission-based churches), serve to see the Kingdom come on university campuses (campus-based churches), and finally those that labor globally to share the Gospel (global movements). There are currently over 100 microchurches that form our makeup in the Tampa Bay area. We believe firmly that people make up the church, not buildings or budgets, or even leaders. When believers work together in sincere worship and genuine community to accomplish a part of the mission of God, they are the church. We believe the larger church expression exists to serve the smaller, and not the other way around.
New to the Underground? Visit one of our house churches. Worshiping with a large group of people can be great, but people want and need to be known. Life is best lived in the company of friends. Jesus himself created a small community with whom he pursued his mission. A home church is a great place to start a journey to a more simple and honest version of church as we know it. We believe everyone is uniquely called to the mission of God. But how do you know what you are called to? We long to awaken dreams and give everyone the resources they need to live out their calling. The Calling Lab is a platform to help you or someone in your microchurch discover their calling and be sent into that mission. Saturday, March 25th.
Volunteers make the Crucible connections happen and we're on a mission to help everyone that comes to Crucible to experience a connection. That connection can be with God, others, confirmation or encouragement. Very simply put Volunteers make this happen. During Crucible we need people to be cared for on a number of levels so they are free to experience connection, volunteers provide this care.

We're inviting our whole community to start the year with a period of prayer and fasting. Fasting is about focus, it is about the supremacy of God in all things and the weakness in us to do anything meaningful without him. We fast so that we can see the truth. That he matters more than food, that he is our sustenance, that apart from him we can do nothing. There are lots of ways to fast, to find this focus, and we are calling all our leaders to find one (and for the first 7 days of the year) fast with us.
